Sir John Wolfe Barry and Partners to Crown Agents.
Gentlemen,
285
21, Delahay Street, Westminster,
17th. May, 1907.
Kowloon-Canton Railway British Section.
We wish to draw your attention to paragraphs
12, 13 and 14 of Mr. Eves' general letter No. 21 dated 10th.
January, 1907. Mr. Eves in this letter asks that his Chief
Storekeeper, Assistant Engineer on the Kowloon-Section and he himself should be given a house allowance in view of the large
proportion of their salaries which they have to pay away in
house rent through the necessity of their living in Kowloon,
while the other members of the engineering staff have free
quarters provided for them.
We consider this a fair application and
would therefore recommend that Mr. Eves be given a house allowance of £100 per annum, and his Chief Storekeeper and Assistant Engineer on the Kowloon Section an allowance of £60 per
annum, to date from the time when they took up their residence
at Kowloon.
We understand that in similar cases in
India an allowance of this nature is generally made.
We are etc.,
(sd.) J. Wolfe Barry,
for Sir John Wolfe Barry and Partners.
